There are no subways in Hong Kong at present

2019-10-05T05:08:17.817Z

On Saturday morning, there are no buses or trains in Hong Kong, and the connection to the airport is also affected. The operator justifies this with safety concerns. New protests are expected.

In Hong Kong, the subway traffic is temporarily closed on Saturday in view of the partly violent mass protests. The railways and buses in the Chinese Special Administrative Region would not drive from the morning, the operator explained. Affected was also the connection to the airport. In the course of the day will be decided on the continuation of the measure. The news agency dpa reports that the subway traffic was already stopped on Friday evening.

In clashes between protesters and security forces several subway stations had been devastated. Before employees of the transport company could move out to repair work, their safety must be ensured, the operator justified the decision.

On Saturday, numerous shopping centers will be closed, as well as shops and banks that have relations with China.

In Hong Kong, mass protests have been ongoing for months against the growing influence of the Beijing government and the curtailment of civil rights. The demonstrations were initially directed against a planned law that provided for transfers of suspects to China. Meanwhile, the protests are generally directed against the Prussian leadership in Hong Kong and the restriction of democracy.

There were hardly any protests planned for this weekend. Then, surprisingly, a mantle ban was imposed - with recourse to an old colonial emergency law, which gives Hong Kong's head of government Carrie Lam even more far-reaching plenary. This tightened the tension again.
