The General Authority of Hama National Hospital is preparing for the first open heart surgery after the opening of a specialized department of cardiac surgery and cardiac catheterization.
Director of the Authority, Dr. Salim Khallouf explained to Sanna health that the new section includes a fully equipped operating room, a six-bed intensive operating room, a coronary care unit with six beds, an operating table, an artificial cardiac system and anesthesia.
The department serves doctors specializing in cardiac surgery, anesthesia and resuscitation, and a nursing and technical staff who underwent an intensive training program at Al-Basel Hospital for Cardiology and Surgery in Damascus, according to Khallouf, who noted that it is the first of its kind at the level of public hospitals in the central region.
The director of the hospital that the first open heart operation will take place this week after making the necessary arrangements and preparation of the patient, pointing out that these operations will save significant costs for patients as the cost will be the minimum tariffs of the Ministry of Health, while the patient pays the price of supplies only.
In parallel with the opening of the new section, Hama National Hospital has restored the MRI service after it has been fully maintained, according to the director, who said that the cost of the images of the device by between 70 and 80 percent less than the private sector.
The hospital recently started the rehabilitation of the Department of Oncology in cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the United Nations Development Program to raise its capacity to reach about 50 patients per day, Khallouf pointed out that medicines and all medical procedures provided to patients oncology laboratory tests and radiographs are provided free of charge.
It is noteworthy that the services of Hama National Hospital last year exceeded one million and 503 thousand medical services, including 13 thousand various surgeries, noting that it includes 298 beds and served by 58 specialist doctors and 218 residents and 751 nurses.
