BAGHDAD - More than 100 people, including eight members of the security forces, have been killed and 6,000 wounded in recent demonstrations in Iraq's provinces, the Joint Operations Command said.
"The current toll of events that accompanied the demonstrations is the death of 104 people, including eight members of the security services," the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said in a statement.
The statement added that there are malicious hands targeted demonstrators and security forces and that there are investigations to find out who targeted them.
The statement pointed out that the Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi has given strict instructions to deal peacefully and preserve lives.
The Operations Command of the Iraqi capital Baghdad announced the arrest of a number of people in the ranks of demonstrators who planned to cause chaos and were carrying Molotov cocktails during the recent demonstrations, stressing that "security in Baghdad is controlled."
