Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said today that the interrogation of Russian parliamentarian Ingo Yumashev by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation is "provocation and outrageous behavior."
"The actions of the United States of America are yet another example of its violation of its international obligations," Volodin was quoted as saying. "Yumashev has received an invitation to participate in an international forum and the US embassy has issued her a visa."
"Yumashev coordinates the work of the Contact Group on US Congressional Relations in the State Duma, interacts with her colleagues and engages in a difficult dialogue. The behavior of US intelligence in this regard can only be considered a provocation."
"There are forces in the United States that want to increase tension" in bilateral relations, he said. "These measures, which create a negative atmosphere in the relations between our two countries, are unacceptable and deserve condemnation."
Russia had earlier submitted a memorandum of protest to the US State Department against the background of questioning Yumashev more than an hour after arriving in the United States to participate in the forum "Fort Ross."
It is noteworthy that the US authorities recently prevented the entry of 10 members of the Russian delegation to the United States to participate in the work of the General Assembly of the United Nations and Moscow summoned the US ambassador to the US described the incident as a process of resentment and has no explanation or justification.
