(CNN) - Rescue teams reported that they found a live puppy in the rubble of a collapsed building, a month after Hurricane Dorian devastated parts of the Bahamas.

Members of Big Dog Ranch Rescue found the dog, now called "Miracle" (Miracle), on Friday at Marsh Harbor using an infrared detection system of a drone, organization spokesman Chase Scott told CNN.

Scott said Miracle was almost crushed to death after a building collapsed, trapping it under broken glass, an air conditioning unit and debris.

The 1-year-old mixed-breed dog had survived only with rainwater and was "in the bones and unable to walk," Scott said.

Despite his terrible condition, Miracle greeted rescuers by wagging their tail.

Scott said they are providing medical and emotional support to the puppy and that they expect him to recover completely.

"Miracle will be put into adoption after recovery, unless its owners claim it," Scott said. "We have reunited some families who lost everything with their pets, those who believed they had died or those who were separated during the evacuation and that offers them new hope."

Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas in early September, killing dozens of people and leaving hundreds missing. Mass evacuations resulted in countless abandoned animals. So far, Big Dog Ranch Rescue has saved 139 dogs.
