French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner warned that the threat of terrorism in France remains "high" after the recent stabbing in Paris.
Castaner made the remarks after French Republican lawmakers demanded that he resign over the operation. He told France Inter radio on Thursday that 59 attacks, including three this year, have been prevented since 2003.
Castaner reiterated his refusal to resign over the attack and said he had no plans to resign but admitted that opportunities had been missed to avoid police deaths.
Four policemen were killed last Thursday in an armed attack on a police station in Paris.
The party's senator Bruno Rotayo asked the interior minister: "How did a person reported in 2015 that he had contacts with extremists hold a position in a sensitive section of the police headquarters?"
Western countries are witnessing a state of security alert after the reflux of terrorism, which was supported by some of these countries and condoned its crimes in Syria and Iraq to their territories, especially after the attacks and repeated attacks.
