Damascus-Sana
Deputy Foreign Minister and Expatriates Dr. Faisal al-Miqdad discussed this afternoon with the Director of the United Nations Mine Action Service Agnes Marcaylo aspects of the organization's work in Syria.
Al-Miqdad pointed out that the Syrian state has made huge efforts to remove these mines and that it will continue to cooperate with the UN demining service and provide all necessary facilities to clear all areas liberated from mines and improvised explosive devices left by terrorists to protect Syrian citizens from this threat to their lives and to preserve their safety.
The Deputy Minister pointed out that the continuation of some Western countries to withhold funding from the organization in Syria falls within the policy of double standards followed by those countries towards the Syrian people.
Miqdad also condemned the unilateral coercive measures adopted by these Western countries, which deprive Syrian citizens of the possibilities to face the difficulties they face.
She explained the stages that the organization has made in cooperation with the Syrian side in the framework of work to build Syrian capacity and raise awareness and education of Syrian citizens on the dangers of mines, and continue to qualify the task forces necessary to accomplish this task in addition to the provision of logistical aspects.
It is noteworthy that a memorandum of understanding was signed in July last year to frame the cooperation between the Syrian government and the United Nations in the framework of the demining process resulting from the remnants of terrorists in Syria.
The meeting was attended by Major General Hassan Al-Sharif, Abdel-Moneim Annan, Director of Organizations, Osama Ali, Director of the Deputy Minister's Office, Bassel Ezzouki, Head of the File, Yamen Badr from the Deputy Minister's Office and guest delegation Habib Haq Javed, Director of the Organization's Office in Damascus.
