MOSCOW - Russia's State Duma lower house member Mikhail Sheremet said Washington's plan to deter Russia in the Black Sea region was blatant aggression.
"This is not deterrence at all, but it is an American aggression that has traveled against Russia," Sheremet told Sputnik, warning countries that would follow the United States and deploy missiles on its territory that it would be in a zone of potential destruction and that Russia would take steps to protect its borders and national interests.
Earlier, the US government's analysis center, Rand Corporation, published a report on Russia's "containment" strategy in the Black Sea region. The authors express concern that Moscow has recently modernized the Black Sea Fleet and increased its strength in the southern military zone.
Experts suggest deploying air defense systems and coastal missile systems in Romania and Bulgaria, as well as expanding NATO maneuvers and helping develop defense capabilities of Ukraine and Georgia.
