The Hong Kong government has enacted the Emergency Situation Ordinance (Emergency Law) that gives the Secretary General super-regulatory authority, and enacted a masking prohibition law without deliberation by the Parliament. Violation of the law will result in fines of less than HK $ 25,000 and imprisonment of less than one year.

On weekends 5 and 6, unauthorized demonstrations and rallies protesting the law were held throughout Hong Kong. Thousands to tens of thousands of people participated in “illegal conditions” in masks.
