Tens of thousands are wearing masks, 18 are arrested

The “Unmasked Law”, which prohibits people from participating in demonstrations without the permission of the police with their masks covered, was enforced on the 5th, and Hong Kong police authorities arrested 18 people in two days. However, for now, the authorities seem to have limited the application of the law.

The Hong Kong government has enacted the Emergency Situation Ordinance (Emergency Law) that gives the Secretary General super-regulatory authority, and enacted a masking prohibition law without deliberation by the Parliament. Violation of the law will result in fines of less than HK $ 25,000 and imprisonment of less than one year.

On weekends 5 and 6, unauthorized demonstrations and rallies protesting the law were held throughout Hong Kong. Thousands to tens of thousands of people participated in “illegal conditions” in masks.
