One of the leaders of Al Qaeda terrorist network has been killed in a military strike in Afghanistan. Asim Omar was killed at the end of September along with six other members of the terrorist organization in the Musa Kala district of Helmand province, the Afghan intelligence agency said. The attack was carried out jointly by Afghan and US troops.
A spokesman for the US forces in Afghanistan merely confirmed that troops from both countries had worked together against Al Qaeda fighters in the province. Among the dead is also Omar's message courier to the head of the jihadist organization, Aiman al-Sawahiri.
There were various statements to civilian victims of the attack. Local authorities spoke of up to 40 dead. These should be guests of a wedding that was celebrated nearby. About the nature of the military strike made neither the Afghan intelligence nor the United States details.
