(CNN Spanish) - Student leader Lesther Aleman returned to Managua on Monday after a year in exile. Upon his arrival at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport, he urged other exiles to reconsider his decision, since in Nicaragua, according to him, there are no guarantees for a safe return. Aleman said he returned to resume his work in the student direction and in the Civic Alliance.

Aleman, 22, a Social Communication student from the Central American University and leader of the Nicaraguan University Alliance, AUN, gained notoriety for facing President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo during the inauguration of the first attempt at National Dialogue on May 16 of 2018. German held the Government responsible for the deaths of civilians and requested the resignation of Ortega and Murillo. Vice President Murillo has described this meeting as a circus before official media.

Unlike the day they returned to Nicaragua Aníbal Toruño, owner of Radio Darío, and the political scientist Félix Maradiaga, this Monday no police operation was carried out with large deployment of agents at the airport, or on nearby roads.

More than 70,000 Nicaraguans left the country after the protests according to the most recent report of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights published last September. The Civic Alliance has denounced that some of those who returned claim to be besieged by motorized homes and Ulises Josué Rivas Pérez, originally from Chontales and who participated in the anti-government protests, was arrested after his return in September and faces charges for common crimes.

We consult the Prosecutor's Office if there has been an increase in complaints involving nationals returning from exile, but not responding to our requests for information.
