(CNN) - Oprah Winfrey now has the largest fund at Morehouse College in Atlanta after donating $ 13 million, according to a school press release.

Winfrey visited the historic black university for men on Monday for the 30th anniversary of the Oprah Winfrey Scholars Program, according to the statement. The program began in 1989 and the fund amounts to $ 12 million. Monday's $ 13 million donation brought his total investment to 25 million.

"Seeing you here today, young fellows Oprah Winfrey moved me deeply," Winfrey said Monday before announcing his donation. "I am so proud of you, I am proud of all who attend this school in search of knowing more clearly who they are, the value they have and how they will share that value with the rest of the world."

Winfrey's donation comes after billionaire Robert Smith promised in May to pay the student debt of Morehouse graduates in 2019. Smith donated $ 34 million to the school last month, keeping his promise.

"I am grateful to Oprah Winfrey for her generosity," said Morehouse President David A. Thomas. “I also feel hopeful for Morehouse and what he has reaped in terms of philanthropic support with gifts like Oprah and Robert Smith. I hope this will also make others take a step forward with their support for Morehouse, but even more broadly, for historically black colleges and universities. ”

The Oprah Winfrey Fellows Program has funded the education of some 600 academics, according to the school's statement, including Mayor of Birmingham, Alabama, Randall Woodfin, who was elected in 2017 as the city's youngest mayor in more than one century.

Nathan Rolle, a student of international studies and journalism, is an Oprah Fellow who met Winfrey on Monday.

"I have admired Mrs. Winfrey all my life," Rolle said in the press release. "This day is the highlight of my experience at Morehouse."
