The Hague-Sana

Syria renewed its strong condemnation of the use of chemical weapons and expressed its deep concern over the attempts of some countries, especially the United States of America to continue to make baseless accusations and to market false allegations and fabrications against Syria.

Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), said in a statement to the 92nd session of the Executive Council currently held at the OPCW's headquarters in The Hague that “Syria continues to cooperate with the fact-finding mission and provide all necessary facilities It regrets that the Mission did not comply with the provisions of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, did not adhere to the terms of reference for its work, carried out remote investigations and refused visits to sites of attack under various pretexts and relied on the analysis of photos and videos published in Open sources that fabricated the "White Helmets" front group, the terrorist arm of the victory as well as heard the witnesses were brought from the incubator environment for terrorist groups.

Sabbagh stressed that those serious concerns expressed by Syria regarding the modus operandi of the fact-finding mission led it to demand its revision and updating to make its reports professional, credible and unanimously accepted by the member states of the organization and not to be a reason for their division and non-adoption of its reports and conclusions.

Ambassador Sabbagh pointed out that Syria reaffirmed its official request to send the fact-finding team to Khan Sheikhoun and Al-Latamneh, which were recently liberated from terrorist groups, in order to investigate the incidents that took place in the past in order to reach real conclusions and not investigations. Fictions took place on Turkish soil and away from the site of the event.

Sabbagh deplored the US administration's anticipation of the fact-finding mission's investigation into the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria and issued its own conclusions and judgments, noting that it is not surprising that this behavior coincides with significant positive changes in Syria, whether through progress at the field level in defeating terrorists or related to progress. In the political process.

In this regard, Syria deplores the statements made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about the alleged incident on May 19 and his accusation against the Syrian Arab Army, which is said to be a lie and a violation of the powers of the organization. To obstruct the Syrian government's efforts to restore security and stability throughout the country, mislead public opinion and find justifications and pretexts for launching a new aggression on Syrian territory.

Sabbagh stressed that the crimes of terrorist organizations of various names against the Syrian people, including their use of chemical weapons, have become known to all, as well as regional and international parties behind them, pointing out that Syria has been keen to inform the Secretariat of the Organization and the Security Council on a regular basis and official information available to them on the work done by Terrorists, including the transfer and possession of toxic chemicals, and the preparation of fabricated plays about carrying out chemical attacks to accuse the Syrian Arab Army.

Sabbagh stressed that Syria believes that what is needed now is to concentrate international efforts to confront this real danger and to effectively implement all the provisions of the Convention without politicization and take a decisive attitude towards the countries that cover the crimes of terrorist groups so that we can finally eliminate chemical terrorist acts.

Ambassador Sabbagh stressed in his statement the need to work hard to achieve the universality of the agreement, stressing that Syria strongly believes in the need to make the Middle East a region free of all weapons of mass destruction in order to ensure regional and international peace and security, pointing out that Syria has supported the decision taken by the session. The 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, entitled “Conference on the establishment of a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East”, has been entrusted by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Syria hopes that this conference, which is scheduled to be held in New York next month, will yield fruitful and effective results.

Ambassador Sabbagh concluded by reaffirming that the Syrian Arab Republic, which in 2013 acceded to the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, had fulfilled all its obligations resulting from that accession and had achieved the ideal and unprecedented destruction of its chemical weapons and production facilities under difficult and complex conditions and far beyond what it had done. Countries that have joined the OPCW since its inception, such as the United States of America, are still lagging today in the destruction of their arsenal of chemical weapons and production facilities.
