[Brussels 9th Reuters]-European Union (EU) officials denied the British Times report on the 9th that the EU side is preparing a big concession in the UK withdrawal negotiations.
The UK Times reported on this day that the EU is prepared to allow the withdrawal from the new backstop clause after a certain period if the Northern Ireland parliament meets a majority of the two criteria. In response, the pound rose against the dollar.
EU officials said the report would continue to talk with the UK, but "unfortunately there are no plans for the EU to make a new move at this time." Another EU official denied the report, saying "I haven't heard anything about this." EU officials say they can't make a breakthrough proposal for an agreement because the disagreement over the Irish issue is too great.
