Welcome to The Morning @SPIEGELONLINE .
Today, Sven Scharf accompanies you to the day until 9 o'clock - here you will find the author on Twitter.
The most important political topics of the day can be found compactly in our briefing DIE LAGE.
French President Emmanuel Macron has been concerned about the deadly attacks in Halle. "Halle's anti-Semitic attack is a shock," Macron wrote on Twitter on Thursday night. "We condemn her sharply." The President expressed his full support to the Jewish community, and his condolences to the solidarity of Germany and to the relatives of the victims. Previously, there were already numerous reactions from German and international politics. Thomas Oppermann, former SPD parliamentary leader, spoke of "anti-Semitic terror" in Germany. "It's horrible, we need a harder line of security for the right-wing terror!" Left-parliamentary leader Dietmar Bartsch wrote: "On the highest Jewish holiday an attack on Jewish life in Germany - disgusting!" Chancellor Angela Merkel visited a synagogue in Berlin last night to express her solidarity with the Jewish community. 10/10/19 3:36 AM Welcome to the "Morning" at SPIEGEL ONLINE.
