The Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur revealed this Thursday, October 10, the existence of a case of person infected with the Zika virus in the Var. The diagnosed patient is now cured.

A woman, now cured, has been infected with the Zika virus in the Var, said Wednesday the Regional Health Agency (ARS) which states that it is the "only indigenous case identified in 2019 in metropolitan France » .

This patient, who was diagnosed "last week" in Hyères, was taken in charge by her doctor, explains the ARS Paca.

Zika virus infection is a disease that can be transmitted from person to person through a tiger mosquito bite, such as dengue and chikungunya, if the latter is a carrier of the virus. Sexual transmission is also possible, says the ARS.

10 cases identified in 2018 in metropolitan France

In 2016, the Zika epidemic affected more than 66,000 people in the West Indies. In the vast majority of cases, the virus was manifested only by high fevers, pains and pimples in a short time. In 2018, 10 cases of Zika were notified in metropolitan France.

Aboriginal cases are distinguished from cases imported by persons who contracted the disease while traveling in a contaminated area.

"The ARS, Public Health France and the Interdepartmental Agreement for the Mosquito Control of the Mediterranean (EID) continue their investigations [...] to determine the origin of the case and prevent the spread of the disease," the statement added.

The ARS asks people with suggestive symptoms (rash, muscle or joint pain, fever, fatigue, headache), especially if they appear in the first few days after returning from a trip to a tropical area. consult your doctor immediately.
