Docet omnes ubique: he teaches everyone, everywhere. This is the motto of the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (Cnam). Founded in 1794, this institution of higher education and research has always made "training for all" an essential value. This ambition comes from a new impetus with the announced creation of 55 new branches throughout France in addition to 150 centers already in operation. Called "In the heart of territories", this program aims to expand the presence of CNAM in "medium" cities and therefore closer to rural areas that sometimes feel neglected in the supply of higher education.

Three ministers for an announcement

This list of cities was unveiled Thursday, September 26, at the Paris headquarters of CNAM and in the presence of three ministers: Muriel Penicaud, Minister of Labor, Frédérique Vidal, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and Jacqueline Gourault, Minister of Territorial Cohesion and Relations with Local Authorities. "The stakes are important. This is to strengthen our network to be closer to the territories. This proximity is essential to best meet their needs, " says Gilles Maléfan, director of Cnam Normandy. In this region, three municipalities have been selected to host these new sites: Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Dieppe and Saint-Lô. They are thus added to the five centers already present in Caen, Rouen, Vernon, Elbeuf and Le Havre.

Training for a return to employment

Each year, the Cnam Normandie trains 1,400 "listeners", the name given to the students. If it also provides sandwich courses, the educational institution focuses on courses for adults as part of a return to employment, a business creation or a professional evolution. "That's why we offer evening classes or distance learning. All with funding possibilities, continues Marine Mezzano, communication manager of Cnam Normandy. We attach great importance to the accompaniment of our auditors. And that at all stages of their efforts.

Curriculum and partnerships

The National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts has a catalog of 800 courses in more than 350 trades that lead to a diploma, a title or a certification. "To image, the CNAM is a huge library in which each regional antenna draws according to the needs of the territory. And all our trainers are professionals familiar with local issues, " says Gilles Malefan. Thus, the Norman pole offers a range of courses in 13 fields of activity ranging from human resources to computer science, through accounting, law or even commerce. "These courses range from bac - 1 to bac +5, details the regional director. Some courses are offered directly by CNAM and others are the result of partnerships with other local actors. For example, with the support of the Normandy Region, the CNAM and the Lemonnier Institute have joined forces to create a professional license in robotics, responding to a local need. "They have the teaching tools and we have the diploma," explains Marine Mezzano. Ultimately, our common goal is to implement training as close as possible to industrialists at the Normand'innov site in Flers, where companies are looking for technicians in this field. In the same spirit, we also work with the Region, universities, CCIs, Greta, high schools ... ".

Mayors and projects for their municipalities

For the cities of the program "In the heart of territories", this experience is an undeniable asset. "The Cnam is a prestigious establishment, known for its quality trainings. This implantation is an important factor in our goal of revitalizing the municipality, " says François Brière, Mayor of Saint-Lô. From now on, discussions will take place between the partners to determine the training to be preferred in these new antennas whose opening is scheduled for September 2020. The elected Saint-laws is already thinking about the possibilities in the agri-food sector. For its part, the mayor of Dieppe emphasizes that "25% of the GDP of the municipality is industrial, against about 12% at the national level. A company like Alpine, for example, manufactures quality automobiles, which implies a know-how that must be transmitted locally, argues Nicolas Langlois. There is also the energy field with two nuclear power plants nearby and wind energy projects. Not to mention the needs in personal assistance services, hotels, catering ... " And the elected to add: " Going to train elsewhere is a brake for the inhabitants of the sector. The arrival of CNAM will help to open up our territory ".
