In the Senate, Christophe Castaner judges "despicable" taunts about the signs of radicalization

After listing the signs of radicalization in the National Assembly, Christophe Castaner returned to the Senate on taunts that ensued.

Christophe Castaner judged on Thursday, "despicable" , taunts or ironic traits after his remarks made Tuesday in front of the National Assembly, on the signs likely to testify to a radicalization among the agents of the security forces.

"Some have glossed or made humor. I find it despicable, " said the Minister of the Interior auditioned by the Committee on the Laws of the Senate.

Chistophe Castaner refers in particular to the hashtag #Signaletonmusulman popularized on the social network Twitter after the remarks Tuesday, from the head of state to the Paris police headquarters then those he could hold during his hearing before the commission of the Laws of the National Assembly, after the massacre of the Prefecture of the Paris police.

"When I gave the list of what can identify a radicalization, in particular towards a radical Islam, a political Islam, terrorism, a number of people made fun of each other by taking back one by one [...], each here, knows that no one makes a link between the Muslim religion and terrorism, or even between the Muslim religion, radicalization and terrorism, " said Christophe Castaner.

"But it can happen. To deny it is to lie to the French, " added Christophe Castaner.

For the minister, these signs are not necessarily synonymous with radicalization but "elements that after analysis, can characterize radicalization," he added.

Tuesday before the National Assembly, Christophe Castaner held that the wearing of beards, the refusal to shake hands with a woman, proselytism, the attendance of radicalized people or the wearing of the full veil outside of work, could be considered as so many signs of radicalization.

In front of the senators of the commission of the Laws, Christophe Castaner also hammered that it considered "the responsibility of a police officer or a policeman to assume the denunciation of a phenomenon of radicalization which it would note" .

"For me it's not negotiable. It's part of their missions. They must protect the French, their colleagues and I refuse to oppose a reservation on this subject , " said the minister.

Mickaël Harpon, administrative officer in the Intelligence Directorate of the Paris Police Headquarters (DRPP) killed four officials on 3 October. He was presented by the antiterrorist justice and then by the political authorities as a man adhering to radical Islam. According to a report by the DRPP, signals that could have alerted to its possible radicalization were not the subject of administrative reporting in 2015.
