Normandy. The Levavasseur brothers cultivate the know-how of the family nursery

Thirteen horticulturists and nurserymen Norman open their doors this weekend. Among them, the company Levavasseur, rooted in Ussy (Calvados) since the early nineteenth century.

In Ussy, near Falaise (Calvados), the Levavasseur family has cultivated, for more than 200 years, the tradition of the nursery. The company is in the hands of representatives of the 7th generation, since 2009: Étienne and Guillaume Levavasseur.

They are among the thirteen professionals (in the five departments of Normandy) who will open their doors this weekend, as part of the 19th edition of Automnales, an operation organized by the Horticultural Technical Institute Astredhor. The opportunity to discover a wide range of "plants born and raised on site, adapted to the soil and climate of our region," invites Étienne. The public will be able to wander between greenhouses and open-air cultures, take an interest in high-rise trees, ground coverings, ornamental shrubs, hedgerow plants, rose bushes and bamboos ... And refuel technical advice.

Attract a new clientele

"This year we will have more grasses, more perennials, more plants for small gardens, more plants adapted to shade ," says Guillaume. Automnales are a way to attract a new clientele, especially among new generations. On Saturday and Sunday, at 3 pm, the brothers will propose "an animation about the size of trees and shrubs". A space will also be dedicated to children with creative workshops.

For Françoise Philippe, project manager on the horticultural sector at the Chamber of Agriculture of Normandy, "the objective is also to go up that one is able, in Normandy, to have a very diversified production, thanks to the climate, on the ground and the know-how of companies ".
