The Finance Committee of the Assembly adopted an amendment of elected representatives advocating the reduction of taxation of residence permits.

MEPs voted Wednesday in committee to lower the taxation of residence permits from € 250 to € 200, to bring France closer to the European average and promote the integration of foreigners.

As part of the examination of the draft budget 2020 of the State, the Finance Committee of the Assembly has adopted an amendment of elected LREM and MoDem to this effect, following recommendations of a recent parliamentary report.

MEP LREM Stella Dupont pointed out that the "high" taxation of residence permits, which must be paid by foreigners residing in France, "compromises" the integration of some of them and causes a "vicious circle" .

Several MEPs pointed out in committee that these taxes are often paid by associations, which are themselves financed by State subsidies.

New vote

By another amendment, MEPs voted to reduce the amount of the tax to be paid by foreigners from € 250 to € 100 in case of renewal of certain temporary residence permits for a maximum of one year.

These amendments will have to be reopened by the Assembly next week to be engraved in the draft budget. Deputies had tried in vain last year to reduce this taxation.

This reduction proposal comes in the aftermath of a lawsuit by a group of migrants supported by associations. They have lodged appeals against the State to denounce the queues "invisible" before the prefectures of Ile-de-France, where it became "impossible" , according to them, to get an appointment through the internet to regularize their situation.
