[New York 9th Reuters]-New York City announced on September 9 that 22 online electronic tobacco retailers have filed a lawsuit in the Brooklyn federal district court for selling products to minors.
According to the complaint, 22 companies failed to verify their ages and violated New York State laws prohibiting the sale of electronic cigarettes to consumers under the age of 21. In addition to complying with the law, the city is seeking damages to compensate for the "costs of dealing with the issue of electronic tobacco spread among minors in New York City".
Regulatory authorities have been tightened over electronic cigarettes. The number of lawsuits against young adults and teenagers is increasing against major electronic cigarette maker Jules Loves and the company's parent company, Marlboro maker Altria Group <MO.N>.
