(CNN) - Temperatures in Colorado plummeted more than 30 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the largest temperature drop the state has seen in October.
It is also the fifteenth largest temperature drop in a two-day period in Denver's history, according to the National Weather Service.
Only at the Denver airport, the temperature dropped 30 degrees. CNN meteorologist Taylor Ward said at 2:00 pm on Wednesday that the temperature was 26 degrees Celsius and Thursday at 2:00 pm it was 4 degrees below zero.
A cold front arrived Wednesday night with extremely strong winds, snow and the first frost of the season.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said it recorded several vehicle accidents as weather conditions deteriorated.
Denver was nowhere near breaking the record of temperature drop (about 35 degrees Celsius) that occurred on January 25, 1872.
