(CNN Spanish) - The preliminary hearing against Roberto David Castillo, the ninth defendant in the case of the murder of environmentalist Berta Cáceres —assigned on March 2, 2016 at his house in the city of La Esperanza in western Honduras - It was postponed on Thursday at the request of the defense, which considers that there were vices in the expertise presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office as an accusatory entity, according to the media spokeswoman Bárbara Castillo.

Roberto David Castillo was an executive of the company Desarrollos Energéticos, which intended to build a hydroelectric project in the area of the Lenca indigenous community, a work that Cáceres opposed and for which his relatives say his death occurred.

Both the accused and the company on several occasions said they had nothing to do with the death of the environmentalist, who received the Golman award in 2015 for his work in the environment.

For this murder of the environmental and human rights activist, a Honduran court found in November 2018 guilty seven of eight accused of murder and attempted murder and the penalty they must meet in the prisons where they are being held is pending.
