Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi announced today the formation of a high commission of inquiry on attacks on demonstrators and security forces during recent demonstrations in a number of Iraqi provinces.
Alsumaria News website quoted Abdul Mahdi as saying that `` the Iraqi government has formed a high commission of inquiry comprising the competent ministries and security agencies and representatives of the Supreme Judicial Council and the House of Representatives and the Commission on Human Rights to reach objective results to refer perpetrators to the judiciary and prosecute and arrest and bring to justice, whatever their affiliations and positions. ''
Baghdad and a number of Iraqi provinces have witnessed the emergence of sporadic demonstrations demanding better services and job opportunities, while Iraqi officials called for the maintenance of community security and non-violence and the safety of demonstrators and security forces.
