Latakia - Sana
With the participation of about 100 volunteers from environmental, civil, developmental and governmental organizations, the Environment Directorate in Latakia organized a walk to Salah Al-Din Citadel on the occasion of the National Environment Day.
The walk, which was launched under the slogan “With our cooperation… to improve our environment”, included walking about 3 km and a clean campaign for a site near a road break after a tour around the castle and learn about its sections and ancient history.
In turn, Eng. Rawan Alfi, Head of the Environmental Awareness Department at the Environment Directorate in Latakia pointed out the importance of these activities in highlighting the beauty of Syrian nature and our archaeological sites, in addition to promoting environmental awareness and hygiene values that are clearly demonstrated through the active participation of more than 12 environmental, civil and developmental societies.
For his part, Dr. Hussein Junaidi of the Young Researchers Club said that today's course is in line with the objectives of the research club which deals with environmental issues and supports all initiatives that concern the environment and preserve the aesthetic and civilized appearance of our archaeological sites.
Lama Al-Sheikh of the International Junior Chamber confirmed that her participation stems from her belief in the great role of youth in raising awareness of environmental problems and the need to pay more attention to address them and reduce the impact of negative behaviors of individuals.
For his part, Hassan Ali Kafa, who comes from Tartous to participate in the march, pointed to the importance of this event in enhancing cooperation and communication among the youth to preserve the environment, archaeological sites and green forests which are considered the lungs of the province.
Eng. Maher Mohammed, Head of the Forestry Division in Al-Haffah gave an explanation about the diversity of plant and animal life in the castle valley, which is covered by pine trees, oaks and other perennial forest shrubs, where foxes, hyenas, rabbits and wild boars.
