Beirut-Sana
Lebanese forces and events today held a sit-in in front of the Association of Banks in central Beirut and the Central Bank of Lebanon, calling for fighting corruption and improving living conditions.
The protesters set off for the second consecutive march in front of the Association of Banks towards the Banque du Liban in Hamra, passing through Martyrs Square, Riad El Solh and Banks Street in central Beirut.
"We need to address those responsible for the miserable economic situation we have reached," said Lebanese Communist Party student sector leader Mohammed Bzeih. "Saving Lebanon requires radical steps to increase taxes on bank profits."
He said that the protest movement, which began since the 16th of last December will continue to announce a central demonstration next Sunday in Beirut.
The Lebanese capital Beirut and the city of Baalbek witnessed protests last Sunday against the price hikes and the deteriorating economic and living situation in the country and to demand the fight against corruption.
