MOSCOW - Russia has warned of Washington's attempts to undermine the work of the United Nations not only by creating obstacles to entry

Russia has warned of Washington's attempts to undermine the work of the United Nations, not only by creating obstacles for diplomats to enter its territory using visas but also by not paying its financial obligations in the budget of the Organization.

"It is important to note that the United States has not paid its share of the United Nations funding for a fairly long period, and its debt to the UN's regular budget has exceeded $ 1 billion," the Tass news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement today.

Washington's attempts to undermine the work of the organization are clear. Besides its unpredictable and biased policy of issuing visas to delegates, it also uses financial instruments, forcing the United Nations Secretariat to adopt effective austerity measures.

"For example, starting in the middle of this month, the UN Security Council and the General Assembly will hold two sessions, one morning and one afternoon, while diplomats previously held several meetings in the evening and night as well. It will cut spending on electricity, air conditioning and security services. ”

The ministry stressed the importance of timely payment by UN member states of its budget contribution to ensure that its normal work continues, noting that Russia is committed to paying its obligations in full and on time.

On Tuesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned member states that the United Nations was facing a severe financial crisis and called on them to pay their annual dues.
