Two members of the forestry department of Lattakia Agriculture Directorate were martyred and eight others suffered burns and bottlenecks as fire brigades battled since yesterday evening to extinguish a large fire that broke out in the forest of Farz al-Ananib village in Qardaha countryside.
Engineer Munther Kheir Bek, Director of Lattakia Agriculture, told SANA that all the possibilities are in dealing with the fire in the hope of extinguishing it in the shortest time, especially as it is located in a difficult geographical terrain with a dense forest, pointing out that some of these fires may be due to an effective act.
He added that the number of fires that broke out in the province yesterday reached 14, including eight in the Qardaha area were all extinguished, adding that strong winds in the evening caused renewed outbreak of fire in the forest of the village of Farz Ananib and besieged more than a fire brigade, which led to the martyrdom of the Chief of the fire department in the forestry department Directorate of Agriculture in the province and a firefighter during dealing with the fire.
