On Monday, a demonstration by Kurds in Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia, led to violent riots. According to police, five people were injured. The police criticized "violence and aggressiveness" during the demonstration.
Last week, Turkey launched its threatened military offensive against predominantly Kurdish areas in northern Syria. Since then, Kurds have demonstrated in numerous German cities against the actions of Ankara. For next Saturday in Cologne, a nationwide demonstration against the Turkish invasion is planned, to which the organizers expect tens of thousands of participants.
