On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump met with opposition opposition Democrats - and it seems that this date was anything but constructive. "He was offensive, especially to the spokeswoman," said Chuck Schumer, the faction leader of the Democrats in the Senate. He referred to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi: Trump had insulted her as a "third-rate politician".
"That was not a dialogue," said Schumer. "It was a kind of rogue, a bad tirade that did not focus on the facts." From Pelosis mouth it sounded very similar. She told journalists that Trump was "flicking out" at the meeting, in the original she said, "What we witnessed on the part of the president was a meltdown. One must pray for his health.

The Democrats had come to the White House to talk to Trump about his Syria policy. For this he is currently in his own party violently in the criticism. Trump had withdrawn US troops from northern Syria, paving the way for a Turkish military offensive in the region: the Ankara government is acting against Kurdish militias - with whom the US has worked in the fight against the Islamic State terrorist militia.
Shortly before the meeting of Democrats and Trump in the White House, the House of Representatives had passed a resolution condemning the withdrawal of US troops from northern Syria. The resolution was passed with 354 to 60 votes - that means that many politicians from Trump's own party had joined.
Pelosi said she believes Trump was "very upset" about this vote. Shortly before that, the US president had called his Syria course "strategically brilliant."
Steny Hoyer, the group leader of Democrats in the House of Representatives, told journalists that the meeting had given "very insulting accusations from the President of the United States." He has never experienced a president who treated his government partner so disrespectfully.
Today's meeting with the President deteriorated into a diatribe. Never have I seen a president treat so disrespectfully as a co-equal branch of the government. Watch my comments following the meeting today with the President: pic.twitter.com/2gTmJlaGLz
- Steny Hoyer (@ LeaderHoyer) October 16, 2019The Republicans, on the other hand, painted a slightly different picture of the meeting. According to her, it was Pelosi who stormed out of the room. He is very disappointed that the Democratic leadership has broken off the conversation, said Michael McCaul, one of the top republicans in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives.
And Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said it was inappropriate, as Pelosi Trump said. After leaving the room, the meeting continued to be productive.

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 16, 2019And Trump himself? He published several tweets about the meeting. In one, he once again described Pelosi and Schumer as "The Do-Nothing-Democrats", both of them "stormed out of the room." In another tweet, he wrote a photo of Pelosi at the "Confused Nuclear Nancy" meeting (she now uses this photo as a header on her own Twitter account). And to another photo of the top Democrats, he asked rhetorically: "Do you think they like me?"
