Next, an astronaut standing on the moon may not have to jump like a rabbit. The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) unveiled a new space suit worn by astronauts on the next manned lunar exploration.
The new space suit has a structure that can withstand from about 120 degrees to about 157 degrees below zero so that it can operate in a severe environment on the moon. The waist and shoulders are easy to move with bearings, and it also has the function of discharging harmful substances such as carbon dioxide generated during activities. Secretary Breidenstein said, “At the time of the Apollo project, the aviator was jumping on the moon like a rabbit, but now he can walk.”
Space suits worn by astronauts on the manned spacecraft Orion were also announced. Even if a spaceship hits a meteorite while it is heading to the moon or Mars, it has a function that can maintain life for 6 days.
NASA plans to land an astronaut in the South Pole of the Moon in 2024 under the direction of the US Trump administration, and is seeking cooperation from Japan and other countries. (Washington = Keisuke Katori)
