The delegation of the People's Assembly to the 141st session of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in the Serbian capital of Belgrade discussed with Gabriela Cuevas Baron, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union the latest developments in Syria.

During the meeting, Deputy Speaker and Head of the delegation Najdah Anzour explained the recent developments in Syria and the return of normal life to all areas liberated by the Syrian Army from terrorism, explaining the dangers posed by the Turkish regime's aggression on the territorial integrity and integrity of Syria as a violation of all international norms and conventions.

In turn, Baron explained that the Turkish aggression against Syria is a violation of international law and will contribute to further tension and hinder the efforts of the United Nations to resolve the political crisis in Syria.

Anzour invited the EU president to visit Syria at the head of a delegation from the union as soon as possible.

The delegation of the People's Assembly also met with the French delegation participating in the work of the Assembly headed by Hubert Lajolien Laverier, member of the French National Assembly at the request of France, where the French delegation expressed deep concern over the Turkish aggression on Syrian territory.

The French delegation stressed that the aggression has harmed the peace process and the efforts of the United Nations over the past years and will increase the suffering of the Syrian people and cause an increase in the number of refugees.

The members of the Syrian delegation assured the French delegation that the Erdogan regime and some countries in the region have carried out aggression on Syrian territory since the beginning of the terrorist war.

Regarding the movement of the Syrian Arab Army towards the Syrian-Turkish border, the delegation asserted that the army is doing its duty to respond to the aggression and to protect all Syrian citizens of all sects and affiliations.

The Syrian delegation called on the French government to review its policy towards Syria and to stop supporting the US policies aimed at creating more chaos in the region, especially in its support for unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States on Syria, which had a significant impact on the daily lives of Syrian citizens.

Anzour called on the French delegation to form a delegation to visit Syria in the near future to see the facts on the ground, especially since there are many parliamentary delegations have visited Syria and surprised that the information they had had no credibility compared to what is on the ground.

The British delegation also met with the British delegation, led by House of Commons member John Whittingdale, at the request of the latter. The British delegation expressed its deep concern over the recent Turkish aggression on Syrian territory, describing it as contributing only to further instability and not helping to achieve peace in Syria.

Members of the People's Assembly delegation stressed that the Syrian Arab Army is carrying out its constitutional duty and that the Syrian state institutions are returning to their natural position and their objective role in protecting all its citizens.

The Syrian delegation reiterated its call on the British and their European counterparts to stop collecting their information through the media, which was part of the tools of aggression, misinformation and counterfeiting and fabrication of events that have harmed the reality of the constitutional and moral role played by the Syrian Arab army since the first moments in its fight against terrorism.
