[16th Reuters]-Former US President Obama posted a cheering tweet to Prime Minister Trudeau who is struggling to re-election in the Canadian general election on 21st this month.
Obama said, “I was proud to work with Prime Minister Trudeau as president. He is a hardworking and capable leader who tackles major issues like climate change.”
"Now the world needs his progressive leadership. I hope the Canadians will support him for the second term," he said.
Mr. Obama and Mr. Trudeau have a close friendship and remain popular on social media after Obama left the White House in January 2017. This year, I was witnessed having dinner at an Ottawa restaurant.
Mr. Trudeau replied “Thank you, friend” with a tweet. “We are doing our best to keep making progress,” he said.
Prime Minister Trudeau took office in October 2015. In March 2004, Mr. Obama invited Mr. and Mrs. Trudeau to the United States, and for the first time in about 20 years, the Canadian prime minister was greeted at the official US banquet.
