(CNN Spanish) - The jury of the process against Tony Hernández, brother of the president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, began to deliberate this Thursday in New York, but did not reach a verdict.

After receiving the judge's instructions, the 12 jurors withdrew from the main courtroom to consider the four charges for drug trafficking crimes that weigh on Hernandez.

The brother of the Honduran president is accused of conspiring to transport drugs to the United States, illegal carrying of weapons, conspiracy to use weapons and destructive devices and making false statements to the authorities. Hernandez pleaded not guilty to all charges and decided not to testify during the trial.

During their deliberations, the jury requested the transcripts of the testimonies of three witnesses of the Prosecutor's Office: Alexander Ardon, former mayor of El Paraíso, Copán, as well as the drug traffickers Víctor Hugo Díaz Morales, aka El Rojo, and Fernando Chang.

  • Could the president of Honduras be dismissed in a political trial?

During the trial, the prosecution presented five witnesses who said they had conspired with Tony Hernández to transport drugs to the United States and paid him thousands of dollars in bribes for President Hernández's campaigns.

The president has emphatically denied all the accusations made against him during the trial, but the accusations have unleashed protests in Honduras from those requesting his resignation.

This Thursday, a group of Hondurans appeared in the New York City court with shouts of "Outside JOH," the president's initials.

The jury will continue deliberating this Friday. If convicted, Hernández could be sentenced to a 10-year prison sentence to life imprisonment.
