Amnesty International accuses the Turkish armed forces and their Syrian rebels of war crimes. They also killed and injured civilians during the Northeast Syrian offensive against Kurdish militiamen, according to a report by the human rights organization.
For example, there is evidence of "reckless attacks in residential areas," including a home, a bakery, and a school. The report also concerns the death of a Syrian-Kurdish politician.
According to Amnesty research, Syrian rebels backed by Turkey have beaten and shot them. Alleged videos from the crime scene also circulated on the Internet. The rebels had rejected the allegations.
Eyewitnesses, video footage, reports from doctors
Amnesty refers to interviews with 17 eyewitnesses as well as video footage and documents such as reports from doctors.
Turkey had launched a military offensive on 9 October against the militants of the Kurdish YPG militia in northern Syria. The Turkish government considers the YPG as an offshoot of the banned Kurdish Workers' Party PKK and thus as a terrorist organization. For the US, however, the Kurentenists were close allies in the fight against the terrorist militia "Islamic State".
According to the Thursday's Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 72 civilians, more than 220 fighters from the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and over 180 rebels allied with Turkey have been killed since the start of the offensive.
