(CNN Spanish) - Chilean President Sebastián Piñera announced this Saturday that he will suspend the rise in the subway, a decision that led to protests in recent days in the capital, Santiago.
"We are going to suspend the rise in subway prices," Piñera said Saturday. "Which requires the approval of a law that must be very urgent until we reach an agreement that allows us to better protect our compatriots."

Strong disturbances appeared in the streets of Santiago this Friday, after five days of protests against the rise in the passage of the underground transport, implemented by the government of Sebastián Piñera this week and that left the adult fare at $ 1.20 at peak hours .
Students drove mobilizations but over the course of the days thousands of adult workers were added, who accuse that the minimum wage is maintained at about 420 dollars, which would imply an expense of almost 48 dollars a month just to get to and from work using the Metro.
