The withdrawal agreement with the EU stands, now the British lower house votes on it. For EU Commissioner Günther Oettinger, there are only two options left: the new deal or none at all.

Günther Oettinger has categorically excluded any changes to this Brexit Agreement. If the agreement approved by the EU leaders is rejected by the British Parliament, he sees "no other way next to this agreement and a hard Brexit without an agreement," said the EU Budget Commissioner of the "Welt am Sonntag".

He does not believe that further explorations and new negotiations would lead to a better result: "This is the best possible deal for both sides." He is confident that the outcome of the negotiations will also be accepted in London, Oettinger said.

At the same time, it is important that the EU Member States "fully support the outcome of the negotiations and recommend that the European Parliament accept it".

The EU and Britain had made a breakthrough on Thursday in the exit treaty negotiations and clarified the highly controversial issue of the status of the British province of Northern Ireland. The British House of Commons votes on Saturday on the new Brexit agreement.

The outcome of the vote is uncertain, as Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government does not have its own majority. The opposition announced that it would vote against the withdrawal agreement. The allied with the ruling Tories Northern Irish party DUP reacted negatively.
