LONDON (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron called on British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday to clarify his country's stance on Brexit after the latter lost a vote in the House of Commons to make it necessary to seek a postponement of EU withdrawal.
"Macron held talks with Johnson and agreed with him in his view on the need for a quick clarification," a French presidential official was quoted as saying on Thursday, noting that Macron indicated the delay would be in no one's interest.
In the same context, British Prime Minister told the President of the European Council Donald Tusk that he will send him an official letter requesting the postponement of the date of his exit from the European Union.
"Johnson and Tusk made a phone call informing the British Prime Minister of the Council of Europe that he would send him an appropriate letter to formally ask for a postponement of Britain's withdrawal from the EU," an EU official said today. European Response.

Britain's House of Commons passed an amendment on Friday that obliges the British prime minister to negotiate with Brussels to postpone the planned date of Brexit on the 31st of this month.
