CSU Party Congress: AKK deplores foreign policy restraint in Germany

2019-10-19T11:52:37.733Z

The head of the CDU deplores the reluctance of Germany in foreign policy. It could no longer "hear that we are worried", especially the Union must "finally give its own political answers".

The applause was restrained when Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer entered the stage of the CSU party congress in Munich. Nevertheless, the CDU chief and Minister of Defense stressed the unity of the Union. For the CDU, it has always been good when they have a strong partner in Bavaria with the CSU, Kramp-Karrenbauer said.

CSU boss Markus Söder had assured Kramp-Karrenbauer to the reception before the delegates that CDU and CSU were sister parties. "We are holding together in these difficult times."

Most recently, however, Söder had made it clear that he rejected a primary election to determine the chancellor's candidacy in the Union. In the Union this was understood as an attempt to prevent a candidature of Kramp-Karrenbauer.

AKK: Green too much "busy looking good"

The warned now in Munich with a reference to the situation of the SPD before further personnel discussions: "we should not make the same mistake and concern ourselves only with ourselves". Instead of being a source of ideas for politics and giving people answers to the current questions, the SPD is in a permanent mode of self-employment. Kramp-Karrenbauer appealed to everyone in the Union not to leave the people in the "world in motion" alone. "Who, if not us" should give answers to the citizens. The Greens could not do that, they were too busy "looking good".

After the Turkish offensive in northern Syria criticized Kramp-Karrenbauer Turkey and the US sharp. Two signals are "devastating in the long term in my view," she said. On the one hand, the Americans would have turned their backs on those who had fought ISIS for them on the ground there: "This sets a real question in the reliability of our strongest alliance partner in the world in motion."

And to Turkey, Kramp-Karrenbauer said: "Nato partner or not" - If it becomes standard, if anyone who feels threatened from a neighboring region, violated the borders by force of arms, "then we endanger the basis of the post-war order" - that you resolve conflicts with diplomacy and not with the power of the strongest.

Kramp-Karrenbauer, however, also lamented a reluctance of Germany and the Union in foreign policy. She asked the question: "When did we have Germany, and when did we as the CDU and the CSU actually make the most recent suggestion on these international issues?" She added, "I can not hear anymore that we are worried, that we are looking with great concern, that we are looking, we are strong, it depends on us, and eventually we have to give our own political answers - especially as a Union ".
