(CNN Spanish) - In Bolivia the polls were closed after the general elections that will define whether the current president Evo Morales is reelected to a fourth term in the presidency, and 36 senators, 130 deputies and 9 supra-state representatives will be elected.
The polls opened from 8:00 am local time and closed at four in the afternoon.

The political scenario in Bolivia is complex and polarized: two candidates are the ones who have the best chance of reaching the presidency that sees a second electoral round, according to experts.
To win in the first round, Morales needs 40% of the vote plus a difference of 10 percentage points above his closest opponent.

Carlos Mesa is the main opponent of Morales, who has said that these elections are crucial because Bolivian democracy is at stake against the authoritarianism established by the government of the Movement to Socialism in these last 14 years.
About 7 million Bolivians were eligible to vote this Sunday.
