New Delhi-Sana

ISLAMABAD: Two Indian soldiers and a civilian were killed in a cross-border shelling with Pakistan in the Kashmir region, officials said yesterday.

Three people, including a soldier and a civilian, were killed and three other civilians were wounded and some buildings and vehicles were destroyed in the hours-long shelling in the northern Kashmir region of Tangdar late on Wednesday, defense ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalya said.

Raja Farooq Haider, prime minister of Pakistan's Azad Kashmir region, said in a tweet that six Pakistani civilians were killed and eight wounded in the clash.

Tensions between the two countries have been rising and sporadic cross-border gunfire has been raging since August 5 after India abolished Kashmir's self-rule and deployed heavily in Indian Kashmir to counter the unrest.
