Environmental planning and its role in achieving sustainable development and investing the results of research, inventions and innovations and using them to achieve sustainable development is the most important goal to achieve the fifth environmental research conference, which began today with the participation of 29 research prepared by a number of university professors and researchers.

Participants in the two-day conference organized by the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment on the Damascus University Amphitheater focused on the need to develop plans to achieve environmental sanitation and access to practical and scientific solutions to help solve environmental problems efficiently and adopt investment ideas in related projects to protect the environment from deterioration.

They pointed out that the environment requires a comprehensive and integrated approach that takes into account the close link between its various components on the one hand and its intersection with other sectors on the other hand to reduce degradation and protect natural resources in order to ensure their sustainability and work on sound environmental planning to observe all environmental circles without neglecting the role of laws and legislation and amendment and awareness The importance of the environment.

In a similar statement, Eng. In a speech to the Minister of Local Administration and Environment Hussein Makhlouf during the conference, he stressed that the government seeks to achieve balanced and sustainable development through the enactment of the necessary legislation and the establishment of various investment projects in order to develop capacities and assist in the implementation of development plans and the resulting job opportunities.

President of the University of Damascus Dr. Mohammed Maher Qabakibi said in a similar speech that the conference seeks to find solutions to the environmental problems afflicting Syria, pointing out that Damascus University has taken several steps in recent years aimed at crystallizing the concept of community service and environmental development.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) participates in the conference through researches for the promotion of agricultural lands FAO Representative in Syria Mike Rixon pointed out that the environment in Syria suffers from unjust infringement, which contributed to the depletion of natural resources, especially groundwater and lack of energy, indicating that FAO is working on Assisting the Syrian government in implementing projects that contribute to the preservation of the environment.

The two-day conference will focus on environmental planning, safe disposal of debris, solid waste treatment, environmental planning in the field of integrated water management and renewable energies, rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems, mitigation of air pollution and the effects of climate change and environmental planning for the rehabilitation of oil wells and refineries in accordance with environmental requirements and finding successful solutions for disposal. From oil pollution, land use, environmental degradation, oil pollution, cleaner production and green architecture.

The conference was attended by Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Eng. Ahmed Al-Qadri and Water Resources Eng. Hussein Arnous and Higher Education Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, Governor of Damascus Eng. Adel Al Olabi and Eng.
