As part of the National Campaign and the International Month of Breast Cancer Awareness, the branch of the National Union of Syrian Students at Al-Baath University in Homs today organized an awareness campaign in the Faculty of Human Medicine at the University with the participation of more than 200 students.

Dr. Fahad Al-Shiribati, Dean of the Faculty of Human Medicine and Head of the Oncology Department, told SANA that the campaign aims to educate all girls about the disease, pointing out the importance of early detection of cancer because it leads to satisfactory results or excision of the tumor only without full breast removal. Reham Al-Abdullah and Maria Al-Khader from the Faculty of Human Medicine talked about the disease, its symptoms, causes and treatment.It occurs as a result of abnormalities and mutations on the cells, which in turn divide randomly, leading to their multiplication, pointing out that the causes of the disease may be genetic or as a result of the way of life and food.

They stressed the importance of the psychological factor that plays a big and important role in healing the patient because her strength and determination to heal achieve up to more than 50 percent, pointing out that the national campaign for the detection of breast cancer is an important health campaigns.

At the end of the campaign, awareness brochures were distributed to students at the university.
