Photojournalist Jesús Abad Colorado, winner of the Gabo Award of Excellence Award 2019, comments that the journalist is sometimes the only person who comes to a story and therefore must understand the role of memory. In an interview with Carmen Aristegui, Abad Colorado explains that he does not seek to sell the stories but to tell them to society. He maintains that through his photographs he tries to tell Colombia that, if a compatriot loses, the whole country does. Abad Colorado tells in detail the story of a photograph in which a woman, who painted her body in black, honors the memory of her husband, an indigenous leader killed in the Colombian jungle. Within the framework of the 7th Gabo Festival, held in Medellín, Colombia, Carmen Aristegui spoke with several of the prominent personalities of this event.
