Fire in San Bernardino consumes at least 30 hectares in California

(CNN) - The Old Water fire in San Bernardino, California, has consumed at least 30.4 hectares in that county, according to Zach Behrens of California firefighters, CNN affiliate KTLA.

So far the fire has not been contained.

Firefighters in San Bernardino County are fighting the Old Water fire in the Old Waterman Canyon near the highway in northern San Bernardino, according to a Facebook post from the US Forest Service (USFS).

There are mandatory evacuations in the neighborhoods and the estimated area affected by the fires is between 20 and 40 hectares.

The California State University in San Bernardina is closed on Thursday preventively due to the warning of strong winds in the area.

The fire started around 2:00 am local time, near Highway 18, which was closed between Calle 40 in San Bernardino and Highway 138 in Crestline, according to the USFS.

There is alert in Santa Ana County due to high winds that could increase the potential of fires, according to USFS.

This is not the only fire in California this Thursday.
The Kincade fire, which ignited on Wednesday night, has burned 2,832 hectares (7,000 acres), said the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office. It started at 9 pm (midnight ET) and grew to thousands of hectares in three hours, said Sgt. Juan Valencia.

While the fire burned, gusts of wind of up to 122 kms / h occurred, said the National Weather Service.

More than 550 homes, which contain approximately 1,700 residents, are under mandatory evacuation orders as the fire burns uncontrollably, Sonoma County said. Additional evacuations could be issued as the fire grows, authorities said.
