Money paid to terrorists Motassadeq: Penal order against JVA staff requested

2019-10-24T14:52:52.438Z

Mounir al-Motassadeq belonged to the 9/11 terror cell and sat for years in a Hamburg prison. Shortly before his deportation, he was paid almost 7200 euros in prison money - which now has consequences.

The Hamburg judiciary draws consequences from an embarrassing breakdown: Because of the unlawful payment of imprisonment to the 9/11 terrorist Mounir al-Motassadeq, the prosecutor's office has filed a penalty order against the security guard of the prison Fuhlsbüttel.

Motassadeq had been paid on October 15, 2018 before his deportation to Morocco exactly 7,194.43 euros in savings from his prisoner account.

Because he is on numerous terrorist lists around the world for his membership of al-Qaeda, payments to him are banned under a 2002 European Community regulation. For the payment of the liability money it would have required a waiver by the German Federal Bank.

Further proceedings against fines set

Motassadeq was a member of the so-called Hamburg cell around Mohammed Atta, who had driven one of the planes to the New York World Trade Center in 2001. On January 8, 2007, the Higher Regional Court of Hamburg sentenced the Moroccan to 15 years in prison for aiding and abetting murder in 246 cases and membership in a terrorist organization.

In the course of the investigation for the payment of money, the proceedings against four other officials against payment of a fine were temporarily suspended, as the prosecutor announced. For three other officials, the blame weighed so little that the criminal proceedings were finally closed with the approval of the district court.
