Syrian Scientific Olympiad: First secondary students take biology tests

DAMASCUS, (SANA) - The first phase of the new season of the Syrian Scientific Olympics 2019-2020 has continued

Tests of the first phase of the new season of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad 2019-2020 continued today with biology as the first secondary students competed in all governorates and at the school level for an hour and a half at the same time.

The questions of the tests dealt with several axes on cell sciences, genetics, functions of nutrition, immunology, health education, life continuity, environment, biodiversity, animal and plant classification, in addition to metabolism, photosynthesis and respiration.

During the preparations for the start of the academic year by encouraging students and introducing them to the Olympics and its activities as a national youth pilot project discovering the talents of scientific excellence throughout the country. The past years have advanced centers in various stages of the Olympics.

She pointed out the importance of the scientific Olympiad competitions as a scientific competition that contributes to the development of scientific research skills of students to support their academic abilities and knowledge.

A number of students expressed their ambition to achieve advanced centers to qualify them to represent Syria in international scientific forums, stressing that the Olympics is a useful and beautiful experience that will give them a sophisticated way of thinking and gaining more skills.

In Daraa, 1,543 students participated in the tests, distributed among 94 secondary schools.

Zuhair al-Yaqoub, head of the Information and Informatics Department at the branch of the Revolution Youth Union in the governorate, pointed out the importance of the Olympics in creating a generation capable of development and creativity. The second stage, while the Assistant Director of Education, Wael Salem explained that the purpose of the competition is to enhance students' scientific abilities and develop their thinking skills.

In As-Suwayda, 428 first-grade students participated in 40 schools.

Bassam Salloum, director of secondary education at the Directorate of Education in Sweida, pointed out that all measures have been taken to ensure the proper conduct of the tests, while the coordinator of the Scientific Sub-Committee for the Syrian Scientific Olympiad in the governorate, Dr. Rabia Zahlan, explained that the questions included difficult, medium and simple levels, all based on simulation and logical analysis.

A number of students acknowledged the positive atmosphere of the tests, enriched their experience and presented an opportunity to highlight their potential.

In Quneitra, the director of education in the province, Imad Al-Asaad, said that the number of students involved reached 79 students and that the schools were equipped with all the necessary supplies to take the test.

In Homs, 1,400 students competed for the test. Education Director Ahmed al-Ibrahim pointed out that the students, through the Olympics, demonstrate the will of the Syrians to face the challenges.

In Hama, 2530 students from Hama, Idlib and Raqqa governorates participated in the tests.

Yahya Munjid, director of Hama Education, said that the facilities were provided to conduct tests in a calm and relaxed atmosphere.

A number of students pointed out that participating in the Olympics contributes to the development of their abilities and raise their levels of scientific materials.

In Lattakia, 1060 students participated in the tests. Haytham Raslan, a biology teacher at the martyr Mohammed Firas Faeq secondary school, pointed out the comprehensiveness of the questions and their fair distribution with difficulty grading.

In Tartous, 1851 students from different schools in the governorate participated in the tests.

Dima Zalat, headmaster of Mustafa Haidar School, said the tests contribute to empowering students.

In Aleppo, 1925 students participated in the tests and the director of education in the governorate, Ibrahim Maso, said that the tests were done comfortably as all supplies were provided from halls and observers.

In Al-Hasakah, 253 students participated in the tests. Abdul Rahman Al Kawakibi High School Director Khalid Al-Shaher said that the atmosphere was competitive and that necessary measures were taken to ensure the proper conduct of the tests.

In Deir Ezzor, the director of education in the province, Khalil Haj Obeid, said that the number of participants in the Olympics at the level of schools reached 2603 students distributed to 46 centers.

The competitions of the new season of the Olympics started on the fourteenth of this month with mathematics and continued on the seventeenth of it with physics and on the twenty-first of it with chemistry. Educational complexes A maximum of 50 students in each discipline according to their due grades.
