Members of the European Parliament today called on the European Council to impose sanctions against the Turkish regime for its aggression on Syrian territory.
"The parliament has passed a resolution strongly condemning Turkish unilateral military intervention in northeastern Syria and urging Turkey to withdraw all its troops from Syrian territory," a press release on the European Parliament website said.
The resolution warned that this aggression constitutes a serious violation of international law, which undermines stability and security in the region as a whole, saying that it is unacceptable that the President of the Turkish regime Recep Tayyip Erdogan used refugees to blackmail the European Union.
In their decision, parliamentarians called for a range of targeted sanctions, a visa ban for Turkish officials for human rights violations, and consideration of targeted economic measures against Turkey. They also proposed suspending trade agreements with Turkey as a punitive measure and targeting agricultural and other products as well as the Turkish-European Customs Union.
Since the ninth of this month, the Turkish regime has launched an aggression against a number of towns, villages and towns in the countryside of al-Hasakah and Raqqa, which resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of civilians, including children, women and workers in the service sectors, and significant material damage in service facilities and important infrastructure such as dams, power plants and water.
