(CNN) - During a speech on American energy in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, President Donald Trump talked about his usual issues before making an unusual comment about his long-standing border wall.

“We are building a wall on the border of New Mexico. And we are building a wall in Colorado, ”Trump said. Colorado, located directly north of New Mexico, is not on the border between the United States and Mexico.

Trump's comments follow the failure of Republicans who control the Senate last week to overturn the national emergency declaration the president used to pay a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, a 2016 campaign promise. The Pentagon in September, it diverted 3.6 billion military construction funds from 127 projects worldwide to pay for 11 wall projects on the southern border of the United States, a measure that provoked the anger of several legislators.

Trump announced the national emergency in February after not being able to persuade Congress to approve additional funds for the wall. Congress later rejected it and Trump responded with his first veto. By law, Congress can try to block the declaration every six months, but so far it has not been able to annul the president's decree.

On Wednesday, Trump went on to say that the wall would be "a big one that really works: you can't go over it, you can't go under it."

"We are building a wall in Texas," he said. "And we are not building a wall in Kansas, but they get the benefit of the walls just mentioned."

Later on Wednesday, Colorado Democratic Governor Jared Polis responded to Trump's comments on Twitter.
