Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi announced his intention to go to the United Nations to end the presence of foreign forces in the country, stressing the preservation of the sovereignty of Iraq and its people in accordance with Iraqi and international laws.

"The preservation of Iraq's sovereignty comes from the full rights and freedoms of the people, as well as the development of its own capabilities to maintain its security and sovereignty and continue to fight terrorism and the criminal organization of ISIS," Mahdi said in a speech to the Iraqi people today.

He pointed out that achieving this "requires in-depth and serious research to end and address any presence of foreign forces and any party or state on Iraqi territory, whatever and under any name and take actions in accordance with the Constitution and Iraqi laws and in accordance with international laws and demand the international community and the United Nations to play its role in this regard."

The Iraqi prime minister pointed to the murders committed by foreign forces against innocent Iraqi citizens after the US-British invasion of Iraq in 2003 just because they approached their convoys or their positions or in gatherings they considered suspicious and dealt with them by helicopters, referring to the killing and wounding of dozens of Iraqis in the Eagles Square west Baghdad by the mercenaries of the American company Blackwater.

In his speech, Abdul-Mahdi talked about taking a series of reforms to meet the demands of the protesters and touched on calls for demonstrations in Iraq today, explaining that instructions were issued not to arrest anyone without warrants.

The Iraqi capital Baghdad and other provinces in the center and south of the country at the beginning of this month, a wave of protests and mass demonstrations demanding reform and the provision of services and jobs.
